Surviving the Blood Moon

The “Horde Night” is the core challenge of 7 Days to Die. As an admin, you can fine-tune exactly how punishing this event is for your community.

Horde Configuration

Adjust these settings in serverconfig.xml to change the game’s difficulty:
  • BloodMoonFrequency: Days between hordes (Default 7).
  • BloodMoonRange: Adds a random deviation. A range of 3 means the horde could happen anywhere between Day 4 and Day 10.
  • BloodMoonEnemyCount: The maximum number of zombies that can be alive per player at one time during the horde.

Performance Warning

The default BloodMoonEnemyCount is 8. While setting this to 64 sounds fun, it will cause massive server lag if multiple players are logged in, as the CPU must calculate pathfinding for hundreds of entities simultaneously.
