Combatting Server Lag

DayZ is an exceptionally resource-intensive engine. It simulates thousands of entities across 225km². To maintain a high tickrate (FPS), you must be aggressive with world cleanup and entity limits.

World Cleanup (globals.xml)

Dead bodies and discarded gear are the primary “FPS killers” in DayZ.
  • Path: /mpmissions/[Mission]/db/globals.xml
  • Tuning: Reduce CleanupLifetimeDeadPlayer from 3600 to 300 (5 minutes). This ensures that a base raid doesn’t result in persistent server lag.

Reducing Loot overhead (types.xml)

If you have 50 players, yours server doesn’t need 10,000 pairs of pants sitting on the ground.
  1. Identify high-frequency “junk” items (Food, basic clothing).
  2. Reduce their lifetime value from 28800 (8 hours) to 900 (15 minutes).
  3. This forces the Central Economy to cycle items faster, keeping the RAM footprint low.
