To set up a RedM server on FREAKHOSTING, get a free licence key from portal.cfx.re and paste it into Keymaster RedM License Key in Startup. Then name your server on Server config, switch on Start at boot for redm-map-one on Resources, start the server and join from RedM with F8 and connect 203.0.113.10:30120.

Before you start

How to set up a RedM server

1

Get a licence key

Sign in at portal.cfx.re, register a server and copy its key. See how to get a RedM licence key for each click.
2

Paste the key in Startup

Open your server in the Game Panel and click Startup. Replace the placeholder in Keymaster RedM License Key with your key, then click outside the field. It saves on its own.
3

Name your server

Click Server config under FIVEM. Under Your server, change Server name and Project name, which still show the template’s text. Set Language, or click Use English (en-US) in Checks. Click Review and save, then Save changes.

4

Start the RedM map

Click Resources under FIVEM. Switch on Start at boot for redm-map-one and click Start at boot in the dialog. It adds ensure redm-map-one to server.cfg.
5

Start the server

Click Console, then Start. When the console stops scrolling and shows no licence error, the server is ready.
6

Join and test

Open RedM, press F8 and type connect with your address. See how to join your RedM server.
The default resources and server.cfg come from the Cfx.re template, which is shared with FiveM. Resources such as fivem-map-hipster and fivem-map-skater are GTA V maps. Leave them off on RedM and use redm-map-one or your framework’s own map instead.

What should I set in Startup?

The panel writes the licence key, slots and Steam Web API key into server.cfg every time the server starts, so change the key and Steam Web API key in Startup, not in the file. With txAdmin on, txAdmin also holds the server to your plan’s slots. See how to configure startup variables.

Should I use txAdmin or the panel pages?

Both work. Use the panel’s Server config and Resources pages for a plain server or when you add scripts yourself. Turn on txAdmin if you want a ready-made framework recipe such as VORP, or txAdmin’s in-game admin menu. See how to install VORP Core.

What to do next

Frequently asked questions

Why does my RedM server stop right after it starts?

Almost always the licence key. The console says “This server does not have a license key specified”. See RedM server not starting.

Why does Server config say FiveM?

RedM and FiveM share the same server program and panel pages, and the default server.cfg is the Cfx.re template. Change the Server name and the other placeholder texts to your own.

Do players need to own Red Dead Redemption 2?

Yes. RedM is a modification for Red Dead Redemption 2, so players need the game on PC plus the RedM client from redm.net.

Do I need a database?

Only for a framework such as VORP, or scripts that save data. See how to set up a database.
