Secure File Management with WinSCP

WinSCP (Windows Secure Copy) is a powerful, open-source SFTP client specifically designed for the Windows operating system. It provides a strong and secure environment for transferring files between your local machine and your FREAKHOSTING server. With features like a “Commander” interface and session saving, WinSCP is the preferred choice for many Windows power users managing complex game server environments.

Step 1: Download and Installation

Follow these steps to prepare the application on your local workstation.
1

Acquire the Installer

Visit the official WinSCP website and download the latest stable release.
2

Execute Setup

Run the installer and select the Typical Installation path. We recommend the “Commander” interface style for the most efficient workflow.
3

Launch the Application

Once the installation concludes, open WinSCP from your Start menu or desktop shortcut.

Step 2: Connection Configuration

You will need your unique SFTP credentials, which are located within your server’s settings menu.
1

Retrieve SFTP Details

Log in to the Game Panel, select your server, and click on the Settings tab. Copy the SFTP Host and Username.
2

Configure the Session

In the WinSCP login window, input the following details:
  • File Protocol: Select SFTP.
  • Host Name: Paste your SFTP Host address.
  • Port Number: Ensure this matches your panel port (default is usually 2022).
  • User Name: Paste your SFTP Username.
  • Password: Enter your Game Panel login password.
3

Initiate the Link

Click Login. If prompted with a host key warning on your first connection, click Yes to trust the server and proceed.

Step 3: Managing Your Data

By default, your local computer is displayed in the left pane, and your remote server is in the right pane. You can move files or entire folders between these environments simply by dragging them from one side to the other.
The bottom of the WinSCP window features a transfer queue. This allows you to monitor the upload or download speed and see the estimated time remaining for large transfers, such as world maps or backup archives.

Session Saving

After your first successful connection, click the Save button in the WinSCP login window. This allows you to reconnect to your server in the future with a single click, without having to manually input your credentials every time.
