Evolution of the Track Surface

One of the most immersive features in Assetto Corsa is dynamic track grip. As vehicles complete laps, rubber is laid down on the tarmac, increasing the available traction for all drivers. This evolution requires drivers to adapt their braking points and cornering speeds as the session progresses, just like in a professional motorsport event.

Configuration Settings

You can fine-tune the grip evolution within your server_cfg.ini file under the [DYNAMIC_TRACK] header.
1

Access the Config File

Log in to your Game Panel, go to the Files tab, and open server_cfg.ini.
2

Set Initial Grip

SESSION_START: Defines the percentage of traction available at the start of the session.
  • Example: 89 results in a “Green” track with low initial grip.
3

Configure Grip Carryover

SESSION_TRANSFER: The percentage of rubber remaining on the track when transitioning between sessions (e.g., from Qualifying to Race).
4

Define Progression Speed

LAP_GAIN: The amount of percentage grip added per car completion of a lap.
  • Example: 1 means the track gains 1% grip every time a car finishes a lap.

Impact on Race Strategy

The way you configure these settings defines the tactical landscape of your server.
Setting a low SESSION_START (e.g., 85-90%) creates a “Green” track. The surface will be at its grippiest in the final minutes of the session, forcing drivers to time their fastest qualifying laps perfectly.

Pro Tip: Randomness

You can also use the RANDOMNESS parameter to simulate unpredictable weather conditions or track cleaning, which adds a layer of uncertainty to the available grip.
