Managing a Voxel World

Enshrouded is built on a complex voxel engine that tracks permanent changes to the terrain. Because every dugout hole or built castle must be calculated for every player in the vicinity, server performance is heavily dependent on CPU single-core frequency.

1. Slot Management

In enshrouded_server.json, you can define your slot count. We recommend the following:
  • Budget Plans: 4-8 slots.
  • Standard Plans: 16 slots.
  • Extreme Plans: 32+ slots.
If 16 players are exploring different regions of the map simultaneously, the server must calculate 16 distinct “Shrouded” zones, which can lead to tickrate drop.

2. Maintenance Schedules

Voxel data can naturally lead to memory creep over long uptime sessions.
  • Recommendation: Utilize the FREAKHOSTING Schedules tab to set an automated restart every 6 to 12 hours. This clears the server’s cache and ensures a smooth experience for your community.

Performance Hardware

If your community is growing, consider migrating to a FREAKHOSTING Extreme instance. Our NVMe storage ensures that large voxel world saves (50MB+) load and save instantly without any “hiccups” during the auto-save cycle.
