Overcoming Connectivity Barriers

Enshrouded’s dedicated server client can be sensitive to specific configuration values. If you are unable to see your server in the browser or encounter errors while joining, follow this checklist to resolve the most frequent connectivity blockers.

Common Connectivity Blockers

1. The Name Length Restriction

Valve’s server indexing system has strict limits on hostname string length.
  • Problem: A name that is too short (under 4 chars) or too long (over 30 chars) may fail to register.
  • Fix: Keep your server name between 5 and 25 characters and avoid emojis.

2. Version Mismatch (Steam Update)

Enshrouded updates frequently during its Early Access phase. If your local game has updated but the server has not, you will receive a “Version Mismatch” error.
  • Fix: Access your FREAKHOSTING panel and click Update to trigger the SteamCMD validation process.

3. UDP Port Propagation

Enshrouded relies on two distinct ports: the Game Port (15636) and the Query Port (15637).
  • Note: FREAKHOSTING handles these automatically. If you manually change ports, ensure they are allowed through any external firewalls and are consistently mapped.

The “Direct Join” Method

The in-game browser only displays a limited number of servers. If yours is missing, the most reliable way to join is via the Steam Server List:
  1. Open Steam > View > Game Servers.
  2. Go to the Favorites tab and click (+).
  3. Enter your IP:QueryPort (e.g., 123.45.67.8:15637).
