If Enshrouded can’t connect or loses connection to your server, check four things first: the server has finished starting (the console shows [Session] finished transition from 'Lobby' to 'Host_Online'), the game and server are on the same version, the password is the one in Game settings, and there is a free player slot. Most disconnects during play come from a restart, an update or full memory.

Step 1: Is the server running and ready?

Open the console. The server is ready when you see:
The first start takes about 45 seconds. Players who join before the last line can fail to connect. These lines are normal and not the cause of a connection problem:
  • [online] Server is not VAC Secure!
  • [ecss] Could not find component 6b1adfa8 when loading template Benchmark

Step 2: Do the versions match?

After a patch, the server and every player must be on the same Enshrouded version. Restart the server so [SERVER] Auto Update installs the latest version, and ask players to update Enshrouded in Steam. See update the server.

Step 3: Is the password right?

The join password is Server password in Game settings. Set it there, restart, and type it exactly. See password not working.

Step 4: Is there a free slot?

Your server allows the number of players in Player slots. Slots kept by Reserved slots are only for that group, so the server can look full to everyone else. Lower Reserved slots in Game settings, or ask a player to leave.

Step 5: Why do players keep losing connection?

  • Server restarts. A schedule or a Restart now after saving settings disconnects everyone. Check schedules.
  • Crashes. Open Logs and read enshrouded_server.log. See read logs and debug crashes.
  • Memory. Open Statistics. If memory sits at the limit, see performance.
  • The player’s connection. If only one player drops, the problem is usually their own connection. Ask them to use a wired connection and pause downloads.

Frequently asked questions

Which ports does my Enshrouded server use?

FREAKHOSTING sets the ports for you. The query port, used for the server list and Steam favourites, is on Startup under [SERVER] Steam Query Port, for example 9877. You don’t need to open any ports.

My friends can join but I can’t. Why?

Check that you are on the newest Enshrouded version and that you type the password exactly. Try adding the server as a Steam favourite with IP:query port.

Is the server down?

Open the server in the Game Panel and check its status. If it is offline, start it. If it won’t start, open a ticket and use Share log to send us the console.
