ULX (User Layer eXtension) is the gold standard for server administration in Garry’s Mod. It provides a comprehensive GUI and chat-based command system that allows you to manage players, bans, and physics restrictions with ease.

1. Installation Requirements

ULX is not a standalone mod. It requires the ULib framework to function correctly.
  1. Add ULX and ULib to your Server Workshop Collection.
  2. Ensure both are loaded on startup (Check for the “ULX Version X” message in your console).

2. Gaining Admin Powers

Before you can use the in-game menu, you must grant yourself permissions via the server console:
  1. Join your Garry’s Mod server.
  2. Open the FREAKHOSTING Console tab.
  3. Type the following command (replacing the ID with your own):
    • ulx adduserid "STEAM_0:1:12345678" superadmin
    • Note: Use your Standard SteamID (e.g., STEAM_0:0:12345), not the 64-bit ID, for legacy ULX commands.

3. Accessing the UI (!menu)

Once you are a Superadmin, you can open the management panel in-game:
  • Chat Command: Type !menu in the chat window.
  • Console Command: Type xgui in your client console (~).
From here, you can navigate through the Cmds tab to kick, ban, freeze, or teleport players instantly.
