Overcoming the “Direct Connect” Bug

Many players encounter an issue where joining via IP (Direct Connect) on a password-protected server results in an immediate “Connection Failed” or “No Password Entered” alert without ever prompting for the password. This is a known client-side UI bug.

The Solution: Manual Override

When using the Direct Connect box at the bottom of the server browser:
  1. Enter Your IP: Type your FREAKHOSTING IP and Port (e.g., 123.456.78.9:8211).
  2. Check the Box: Locate the checkbox labeled “Enter Password”. You MUST check this box manually.
  3. Connect: Click the Connect button.
  4. Prompt: The password popup will now correctly appear, allowing you to enter your server password.

The “Cache Clear” Workaround

If the checkbox still fails for some players:
  1. Navigate to the Community Servers list.
  2. Click on any random, password-protected server in the list.
  3. When the password prompt appears, click Cancel.
  4. Now immediately go back to Direct Connect and join your server. The game’s UI will now be “primed” to show your password box.
