Data Sovereignty: Palworld Saves

Palworld handles data by separating World State (Level.sav) and individual Player Data (Players/*.sav). This modularity is helpful but can lead to synchronization issues if a server is stopped ungracefully.

Optimizing the Save Interval

By default, the server writes to disk every 30 seconds. On large worlds, this can cause a “Micro-Freeze”.
  • Variable: AutoSaveSpan=30.0
  • Optimization: Increase to 300.0 (5 minutes) for a smoother gameplay experience if your server is experiencing tick-rate stutters during saves.

Restoration Scenarios

World Corruption (Infinite Loading)

  1. Stop the server.
  2. Navigate to your /backup/world/ folder.
  3. Choose a timestamp and copy the Level.sav and LevelMeta.sav files.
  4. Replace the main files in the root save directory and restart.

Player Character Reset

If a player is asked to create a new character:
  1. Identify their unique GUID.
  2. Locate their backup in the /backup/local/ directory.
  3. Move the backup .sav to the main /Players/ folder, ensuring the filename matches their GUID exactly.

Off-Site Backups

Internal game backups depend on the server’s local disk. We strongly recommend using the Backups tab in the FREAKHOSTING Game Panel to create a separate archive of your /Pal/Saved/ folder daily.
