Social Structures: Clan Size

The “Clan Size” limit is the single most important variable for defining your server’s gameplay style. A limit of 1-2 encourages a hardcore, stealthy survival experience, while a limit of 10 creates massive “Zerg” wars where armies clash over territory.

Configuration

This setting is controlled via the central settings file.
  1. Navigate: Go to /save-data/Settings/ via your File Manager.
  2. File: Open ServerGameSettings.json.
  3. Variable: Locate "ClanSize".
  4. Values:
    • 1: Solo Only (No teaming allowed mechanics-wise).
    • 2: Duos (Popular for competitive PvP).
    • 4: Standard Squad (Default).
    • 10: Maximum recommended for public servers.

Mechanic Implications

Changing the clan size affects more than just the roster count:
  • Research Sharing: Clan members share all unlocked technologies. In a 10-person clan, one player can research Iron Weapons, and all 9 others instantly learn it.
  • Castle Access: Only clan members can interact with a Castle Heart or open secure chests inside a base.
  • Voice Chat: Clans have a dedicated private voice channel in-game.

Mid-Wipe Changes

You can change the Clan Size on an active server without wiping. However, if you reduce the size (e.g., from 10 to 4), existing large clans will remain intact but will likely encounter bugs when trying to invite new members or manage their roster.
