World Maintenance: Decay

Unlike procedural games (Minecraft, Rust), the V Rising map is static. You cannot “reset chunks” to regenerate resources or clear land. Space is a finite resource. To prevent the map from becoming littered with abandoned tier-1 bases, you must utilize the Castle Decay system to forcibly remove inactive players.

Configuring Decay

The Castle Heart consumes “Blood Essence” to stay alive. If it runs out, the castle enters a state of decay.
  • File: /save-data/Settings/ServerGameSettings.json
  • Variable: "CastleDecayRateModifier"
    • 1.0: Default.
    • 2.0: Decays twice as fast. Recommended for high-traffic servers to free up “prime real estate” quickly.
    • 0.0: No decay. Castles stand forever. Not recommended for public servers.

Admin Removal (Manual)

If a massive castle is blocking a critical road or a cave entrance and isn’t decaying fast enough:
  1. Authenticate: Open the console and type AdminAuth.
  2. Target: Aim your crosshair directly at the castle structure.
  3. Execute: Type the command AdminDestroy (or Destroy in some versions).
  4. Result: The entire structure connected to that Castle Heart will be instantly demolished. Be careful—there is no “Undo.”

Upkeep Costs

You can also increase the "CastleBloodEssenceDrainModifier" to make castles more expensive to maintain. This forces players to log in frequently to farm essence, ensuring that only active players get to keep their massive fortresses.
