Environmental Hazards: The Sun


The primary antagonist in V Rising is the sun itself. While avoiding sunlight is the core loop of the vampire experience, standard settings can be punishing for casual players. Server owners can “nerf” the sun to allow for longer excursions or extended building sessions during the day.

Configuration Variables

These settings are found in /save-data/Settings/ServerGameSettings.json.

1. Sun Lethality

  • Variable: "SunDamageModifier"
  • Values:
    • 1.0: Default. Deadly in seconds.
    • 0.5: Reduced damage. You can survive running between distant tree shadows.
    • 0.0: No damage. Useful for creative/building servers, but breaks immersion.

2. Day Duration

  • Variable: "DayDurationInSeconds"
  • Default: 1080 (18 minutes).
  • Recommendation: Increasing this to 2160 (36 minutes) doubles the length of both Day AND Night, giving players more time to complete long dungeon raids.

3. Daylight Hours

  • Variables: "DayStartHour" and "DayEndHour".
  • Tweak: Setting Start to 10 and End to 14 creates a “Long Night” server where the sun is only up for a brief, terrifying 4-hour window.
