Land Management: Castle Decay

V Rising servers often face a “land crisis” where prime locations are taken by players who quit after two days. The Decay System handles this by requiring constant upkeep. By tuning the drain and decay rates, admins can ensure that abandoned structures are removed quickly to make room for active players.

The Two Stages of Integrity

Stage 1: Consumption (Draining)

Before a castle decays, it must run out of fuel.
  • Variable: "CastleBloodEssenceDrainModifier"
  • Default: 1.0
  • Tweak: Setting this to 2.0 doubles the amount of Blood Essence required every hour. This increases the “rent” cost of owning a castle, forcing players to log in frequently to farm.

Stage 2: Collapse (Decaying)

Once the Castle Heart is empty (0 Essence), the structure enters Decay Mode. Walls turn red, privacy is lost, and the castle takes passive damage over time.
  • Variable: "CastleDecayRateModifier"
  • Default: 1.0
  • Tweak: Setting this to 5.0 (Fast Decay) causes an abandoned castle to crumble in a matter of hours rather than days. This is highly recommended for popular public servers to recycle land rapidly.

”Breaching”

When a castle is in decay (red), any player can attack the walls and destroy them, even if it is outside of the raid window or the server is PvE. This allows neighbors to manually clear out abandoned ruins near their territory.
