ServerHostSettings.json holds hosting settings such as name, password and saves; on FREAKHOSTING the Game Panel rewrites it from your Startup variables every time the server starts. ServerGameSettings.json holds the game rules (clan size, raid times, sun damage, decay, teleporting). You create and edit it yourself in save-data/Settings/ with the File Manager, then restart.
What are the two V Rising settings files?
The server first loads the official default files from
VRisingServer_Data/StreamingAssets/Settings/, then applies the files in save-data/Settings/ on top. Don’t edit the files in StreamingAssets: game updates can replace them.
Which settings does the panel overwrite at start?
Each time the server starts, the panel writes these keys intoServerHostSettings.json from your Startup variables. If you change one of them in the file, the panel puts the Startup value back on the next start. Change them on the Startup page instead.
RCON is not usable out of the box on our servers. If you need it, open a ticket.

How to create ServerGameSettings.json
Your server has nosave-data/Settings/ServerGameSettings.json at first, so it uses the official defaults. To change game rules, make your own copy:
1
Stop the server
Stop the server so nothing is written while you edit.
2
Copy the default file
In the File Manager, open
VRisingServer_Data/StreamingAssets/Settings/ServerGameSettings.json, select all the text and copy it.3
Create your own file
Go to
save-data/Settings/, create a new file named exactly ServerGameSettings.json, paste the text and save it.4
Change the values you want
Edit the keys, for example
"ClanSize": 6. Keep the quotes, commas and brackets as they are.5
Leave the preset empty
On the Startup page, leave Game Settings Preset empty so the server uses your file.
6
Start the server
Start the server and watch the console. Your rules apply from this start.
{ "ClanSize": 6 }. The official instructions allow a file with just the values that differ from the defaults.
What does Game Settings Preset do?
Game Settings Preset loads one of the game’s ready-made rule sets instead of your own file. The options areDuoPvP, HardcorePvP, Level30PvE, Level30PvP, Level50PvE, Level50PvP, Level70PvE, Level70PvP, SoloPvP, StandardPvE_Easy, StandardPvE_Hard, StandardPvE, StandardPvP_Easy, StandardPvP_Hard and StandardPVP. The presets are stored in VRisingServer_Data/StreamingAssets/GameSettingPresets/. Leave it empty if you use your own ServerGameSettings.json or an uploaded save. The panel notes that some settings may not apply after the save file is first created.

Frequently asked questions
Where is ServerGameSettings.json on my V Rising server?
Your own copy goes insave-data/Settings/ServerGameSettings.json. Until you create it, the server uses the defaults in VRisingServer_Data/StreamingAssets/Settings/ServerGameSettings.json.
Why did my change to ServerHostSettings.json disappear?
The panel rewrites the host settings it manages from your Startup variables at every start. Change those on the Startup page. See settings not applying.Do I need to restart after editing the settings?
Yes. The server reads both files when it starts, so restart after every change. Can I use a preset and my own file together?
Use one or the other. If you editServerGameSettings.json, leave Game Settings Preset empty.
