Moving Your Adventure Online

Valheim worlds comprise two distinct files: the .db (Database) file containing the world state, and the .fwl (Metadata) file containing world info. To transition from singleplayer to a dedicated server, you must migrate both files simultaneously.

Locating Your Files

Traditionally, Valheim uses Steam Cloud for saves. You must first ensure they are available locally on your PC.
  1. Move to Local: In the Valheim main menu, select your world and click “Move to Local” if it is currently in the cloud.
  2. Path: Navigate to your local AppData folder: %appdata%/../LocalLow/IronGate/Valheim/worlds_local/
  3. Identify: Find your WorldName.db and WorldName.fwl.

Server Deployment

  1. Connect via SFTP: Use an FTP client to access your FREAKHOSTING server files.
  2. Directory: Upload your two files to the following path: /.config/unity3d/IronGate/Valheim/worlds_local/ (Note: If the directory doesn’t exist, start the server once to generate it.)
  3. Startup Config: In your Startup tab, update the World Name variable to match your uploaded filename exactly (Case-Sensitive).
  4. Restart: Boot the server to load the new world.
