Authority in Valheim: Admins

Administrative status in Valheim allows players to kick, ban, and force world saves via the in-game console. However, by default, dedicated server admins cannot use “cheats” (like flying or item spawning). This guide covers basic administration and how to unlock full control.

Adding Administrative Access

Access is managed through a text file using a player’s unique SteamID64.
  1. Obtain ID: Retrieve the 17-digit SteamID64 (e.g., 76561198000000000).
  2. Access File: Navigate to /.config/unity3d/IronGate/Valheim/.
  3. Edit: Open adminlist.txt and paste the ID on its own line.
  4. Restart: Reboot the server to apply the permissions.

Core Admin Commands

Press F5 in-game to open the console and use the following:
  • kick [name/ip/userID]: Ejects the player from the session.
  • ban [name/ip/userID]: Permanently blocks the player.
  • save: Forces an immediate world save to disk.

Unlocking Full Cheats

To enable commands like god or fly on a dedicated server, you must install the “Server Devcommands” mod (by JereKuusela) on both the server and your client. Without this mod, the devcommands toggle is ignored by the server engine.
