In Valheim, ghost mode and flying are cheat commands. Open the console with F5, type devcommands, then ghost (enemies ignore you) or debugmode and press Z to fly. These cheats work in single player and on a world you host from the game. On a dedicated server, including FREAKHOSTING servers, the game refuses cheat commands for everyone, admins included.

Open the console

Press F5. If nothing happens, turn on the console in the game’s settings menu or add -console to the Steam launch options. See console commands.

Type devcommands and press Enter.

Type ghost, or type debugmode and press Z to fly. Type the same command again to turn it off.

Why doesn’t ghost or fly work on my server?

A dedicated server doesn’t accept cheat commands from players, and being on Admins and bans doesn’t change that. Admins can still use admin commands such as kick, ban, setworldmodifier and setworldpreset. If you need flying or free building on your server, you have two options:
  • Use a world copy in single player. Download the world with the Download button on Worlds, load it in single player, build with cheats, then upload it again. Stop the server before uploading. See upload a local world.
  • Use a mod. Community mods on Thunderstore can allow admin commands on a dedicated server. They usually need to be on the server and on the admin’s game. Read the mod’s page and back up first; see mods.
For building without materials for everyone, the No Build Cost toggle or the hammer World Preset in Startup may be what you want; see world modifiers.

Cheats and achievements in Valheim 1.0

Using most devcommands puts a permanent flag on your character and on the world, which blocks achievements. freefly is an exception. The game asks you to confirm before you enter a cheated state. Iron Gate added a Steam-only opt-in command for players who want achievements anyway.
