Modding Your Viking Realm
Since Valheim does not feature native mod support, the community utilizes the BepInEx (Unity Modding Framework) to inject custom code. For a modded server to function correctly, both the server and all joining clients must usually have the exact same set of plugins.

Server-Side Setup
- Download: Get the latest BepInExPack Valheim from Thunderstore.
- Deployment: Extract the contents and upload them to your server’s root directory (where the
valheim_server_x86_64executable is located). - Plugin Directory: Once installed, placed any mod
.dllfiles into the/BepInEx/plugins/folder. - Restart: Re-launch the server to initialize the plugins.
Client-Side Best Practices
To avoid “Version Incompatible” errors, players should use a mod manager to sync with the server.- Recommended Tool: r2modman or the Thunderstore Mod Manager.
- Manual Sync: If not using a manager, players must manually place the same
.dllfiles into their localBepInEx/pluginsfolder.
