To restore a Valheim backup on FREAKHOSTING, stop the server, open Backups in the Game Panel and restore a backup from before the problem; this puts the whole server, world included, back to that moment. If you have a copy of the world on your PC, upload it on Worlds instead. Valheim also keeps its own automatic world backups, set under Saving and backups in Valheim settings.

How to restore a panel backup

Stop the server

Stop your server so it doesn’t save over the world. To keep the current state, click Download on the world’s row on Worlds first.

Pick a backup

Open Backups and choose one from before the world broke. See create and restore backups.

Restore it

Restore the backup and wait until it has finished.

Start and check

Start the server, join and check your base. If the world is still wrong, try an older backup.
Restoring a panel backup puts the world back as it was when the backup was made. Anything built after that backup is lost. Make a new backup first if you might want the current state later.

How to restore a world from your PC

If you have a copy of the world (a zip of its folder, or its .db and .fwl files), stop the server, open Worlds and click Upload a world. Uploading and deleting are switched off while the server runs. Then set World in Valheim settings to its name. Full steps in upload a local world. On Worlds, each world is a row with its size and a Download button, and the world the server loads has an IN USE badge. Details shows how many automatic backups the world has, when it was last saved, and a Delete button.

Valheim’s automatic world backups

The game saves the world and keeps backup copies on its own. Set this under Saving and backups in Valheim settings: To see how many automatic backups a world has, click Details on its row on Worlds. To roll back to one of Valheim’s own copies, open a ticket and tell us roughly when the world was last fine. For regular safety copies, set up automatic panel backups.

Why did my Valheim world get corrupted?

Common causes are the server stopping while it saves, running out of disk space, or a mod that breaks the save. Stop the server before uploading or editing world files, and test new mods on a backup first.

Can I recover a deleted Valheim world?

Only from a backup. Restore a panel backup from before it was deleted, or upload a copy you kept.

How often should I back up my Valheim server?

At least daily, and before every game update or mod change. Automatic backups and schedules do this for you.
