How to Share Your Map in Valheim and See Other Players

To share your map in Valheim, build a Cartography table and use Record discoveries to copy your map and pins onto it; other players use Read map to copy it onto theirs. To see other players on the map, each player turns on position sharing on their own large map. The No Map toggle in Startup turns the map off for everyone.

How to build a Cartography table

You need a workbench nearby and these materials: 10 Fine wood, 10 Bone fragments, 2 Bronze, 5 Leather scraps and 4 Raspberries. Bronze is made at a forge, so you can build the table once you can make bronze. Build it somewhere every player can reach, such as your main base.

How pins are shared

• Only the pins of the last player to record are kept on the table.
• Copied pins show dark grey on your map. Left-click one to make it white and add it to your own pins.
• Right-click a pin group in the panel on the right of the large map to show or hide it.
• Map data from the table looks different from areas you explored yourself, and you can hide it.

How to see other players on the map

Each player shares their own position. Open the large map (M by default) and tick the option to share your position with other players. Players who have it on show on your map; players who have it off don’t. There is no server setting that forces it.

How to turn the map off with No Map

For a harder game without a map, switch on No Map in Startup in the Game Panel and restart the server. It applies when the server starts, also on an existing world, and is saved with the world. Switching it back off (or to default) doesn’t bring the map back on a world that has already saved No Map; for that, an admin runs setworldpreset default in the console, which resets every world modifier. Is the map shared automatically on a Valheim server?

No. Each player has their own map. Use a Cartography table to combine maps, or share positions to see each other.

Why can’t I see my friend on the map?

Your friend must share their position on their own large map. You only see players who have turned it on.

Does the Cartography table work with No map?

No. With No Map switched on, the map and minimap are off, so there is nothing to record or read. See world modifiers.

Do I lose the shared map if the server restarts?

No. The table is part of the world and is saved with it. Keep backups in case the world is damaged.
