Bridging Platforms: Crossplay

Valheim supports cross-platform play using the Microsoft PlayFab network. This allows players on Xbox consoles to join dedicated servers hosted on Linux alongside Steam and Microsoft Store players.

Enabling Crossplay

  1. Startup Tab: Navigate to your FREAKHOSTING Startup settings.
  2. Toggle Argument: Add the -crossplay argument to your server’s startup command.
  3. Restart: Reboot the server to initialize the PlayFab session.

Connecting via “Join Code”

Console players cannot easily type direct IP/Port combinations. Instead, they use a dynamic Join Code.
  1. Locate Code: Once the server starts, check your Console log.
  2. Log Entry: Look for a line similar to: Session "ServerName" with join code 123456.
  3. Share: Provide this 6-digit code to your Xbox/Console players for them to join via the “Join Game” menu.

Xbox and Microsoft Store clients cannot install mods. If your server is running BepInEx or Valheim Plus, cross-platform players will be unable to join. To support crossplay, your server must remain Vanilla.
