How to Set a Steam Web API Key on Your FiveM Server
Set a Steam Web API key on your FiveM server: get a key at steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey and paste it in Startup > Steam Web Api Key so Steam identifiers work.
A Steam Web API key lets your FiveM server read players’ Steam identifiers, which many admin, ban and framework scripts use. Get a free key at steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey, then paste it into Steam Web Api Key on the Startup page of your FREAKHOSTING server and restart. The default value is none, which means no Steam identifiers.
FiveM uses the key to return Steam identifiers for players, as described in the Cfx.re server commands (steam_webApiKey). Without it, scripts that give admin rights, bans or characters by Steam ID can’t see that ID. Scripts that use the FiveM (Cfx.re) licence or Discord identifiers don’t need it.
Tested by the FREAKHOSTING team on our Game Panel on 29 October 2026 (FXServer build 35245 (Recommended) with txAdmin). Steps may differ slightly if Steam changes its key page.
