To change your CS2 server name, open Server settings in the Game Panel, type the new name in Server name under Basics, click Review and save and then Save changes, and restart the server. The server name is the hostname setting: the name players see in the Counter-Strike 2 server list.

Open Server settings

Open your server and click Server settings under COUNTER-STRIKE 2 in the sidebar.

Type the new name

In Basics, type the name into Server name (“The name in the server list”).

Review and save

Click Review and save. The Review your changes window shows the new hostname line. Click Save changes.

Restart the server

Restart the server. The new name shows in the server browser.
The panel keeps your previous file as server.cfg.bak, so you can go back.

How to change the name with a command

You can also set the name in the Console while the server runs:
A console change lasts until the next restart. To keep it, set the name in Server settings as above, or add the same line to server.cfg (Server settings > Open server.cfg).

Tips for a good CS2 server name

  • Put the most important words first: long names can be cut off in the server list.
  • Say what players get, such as the game mode and region: Retakes | EU | Discord: example.
  • Leave out “128 tick”. CS2 has no tickrate setting, so the number means nothing to players.
  • Use server tags for search words instead of filling the name with them.

Why does my CS2 server still show the old name?

Restart the server after you save. If the name still doesn’t change, another config file or a plugin may set hostname again. Search your .cfg files in game/csgo/cfg/ for a second hostname line.

Is the server name the same as the name in the Game Panel?

No. The name under Settings > Server details is only the label in your panel’s server list. Players never see it. The game uses Server name in Server settings.
